Improved Fire Retardant Thermoplastics Systems

Another approach to fire retardancy of thermoplastics is often overlooked, and involves the removal of as much of the thermoplastic resin from the compound as possible, while still maintaining the necessary physical specifications. It is, in fact, the thermoplastic resin which burns, and the less resin the compound contains, the lower the fire loading will be. The trick is to replace as much thermoplastic resin with filler as possible, while still maintaining the necessary physical properties of the part, cable jacket, etc.

Replacing thermoplastic resin with alumina trihydrate or other FR fillers goes one step further, replacing flammable resin with flame retarding inorganics.

CylaCell-PA, another Cylatec product, is a very effective processing and dispersing aid, and can help achieve this end. Go to CylaCell-PA page
